A Burns Supper is a celebration of the life and poetry of Robert Burns, Scotland’s national bard. It’s a perfect occasion not only to enjoy delicious food and heartfelt toasts but also to raise funds for a worthy cause, like supporting Beatson Cancer Charity.
Wherever you are in the world you can choose to champion Beatson Cancer Charity through the celebration of Rabbie Burns. Whether you are hosting your own Burns night at home, in a restaurant or as a larger event please share your love for all things Beatson and Burns.
Steps to Host Your Fundraising Burns Supper
- Choose a Date and Venue
- Select a date - suppers are normally held on or near the poet's birthday, 25th January.
- Consider hosting at home, or a local venue.
- Plan Your Menu
- Traditional dishes include haggis, neeps (turnips), and tatties (potatoes), along with other Scottish delights like shortbread and cranachan for dessert.
- Don’t forget to “Toast to the Haggis” before tucking in!
- Set a Fundraising Goal
- Decide how much you aim to raise and set a ticket price accordingly. Encour age donations in addition to ticket sales.
- We recommend using JustGiving as as safe online fundraising platform.
- Organise Entertainment
- Poetry readings, traditional bagpipes or folk music, or even a ceilidh (traditional Scottish dance) are common ways to engage your guests.
- Consider making a speech on the impact Beatson Cancer Charity has on patients and their families. Or if public speaking isn't your thing, why not play a video? We have lots of helpful content on our Youtube Channel.
