Brian McFadden and Keith Duffy will join a host of famous faces in the unique Pro-Am tournament.
While they may have put their professional rivalry aside and joined forces in the recording studio, pop stars Brian McFadden and Keith Duffy will be battling it out on the golf course at the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Open this July. The tournament’s unique Pro-Am format will see the Westlife and Boyzone stars – who recently joined forces to tour as Boyzlife – take on an impressive line-up of celebrities and professionals at Dundonald Links from 22-24 July.
A huge golf fan and one half of Boyzlife, Brian McFadden can’t wait to get out onto the Ayrshire course. He says, “I’ve always been a bit obsessed with golf, so to be able to tee off alongside some of the best players in the world is a real privilege. When Keith Duffy and I are on the Boyzlife tour later this year we’ll be spending every moment we can between shows out on the golf course, and I’m also hoping that my years of practice will stand me in good stead for the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Open.”
Alongside the popular pop stars, a host of recognisable faces will also appear at the tournament including Hollywood superstar Dougray Scott, Scottish funnyman Fred MacAulay, and sporting legends Alan Hansen, Gavin Hastings and Rory Lawson.
Boyzlife’s Keith Duffy, adds, “I’ve tried lots of sports over the years, including a half Ironman Triathlon, but there’s something about golf that always keeps me coming back for more. I’ve played against Alan and Gavin before, so I can’t wait to get out on the course and reignite those old friendly rivalries again.”
TV and radio star Georgie Bingham and BBC Breakfast presented Naga Munchetty complete the field. No stranger to the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open, Naga Munchetty also competed in the 2015 event and relished the chance to return.
She says, “I really enjoyed playing at Dundonald last year, but the course was really tough. Being a links course how you play is often influenced by the weather, and I just hope that I can improve on last year,” she says.
“But regardless of the weather and how I play, I absolutely love being able to take part in tournaments like these. You learn so much from the professionals and it’s really helped my own game.”
The celebrities will be joined by selected amateurs in the tournament’s Pro-Am format, which will see them take to the course alongside the world’ best professional female golfers over the first two rounds.
Throughout the tournament, the celebrities will play with some of the sport’s best players including Tiger Woods’ niece Cheyenne Woods, and Scottish stars Catriona Matthew, Kylie Walker, Pamela Pretswell and Kelsey MacDonald. The three-day event will see them give it their all in an effort to lift the coveted trophy at the end of the weekend.
The 2016 Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open takes place at Dundonald Links on the West Coast of Scotland in North Ayrshire, from 22-24 July. The event now occupies a prime spot on the Ladies European Tour calendar, sitting just one week ahead of the Women's British Open and offers a prize fund of €500,000.
The event's unique pro-am format sees 80 amateurs and celebrities tee it up alongside a limited field of 80 of the top female golfers in the world. The 54-hole tournament is played over three days and is the only annual professional Ladies European Tour event in Scotland.
Beatson Cancer Charity has been chosen as the official charity of the tournament and will hold a whole host of fundraising activity including a #wearityellow day on the Friday. The event is FREE to attend with fun for all the family.
