"Nobody who knew Brian would be surprised to hear that he faced his illness with great courage and extraordinary stoicism."

Brian John Chalmers, or ‘the Prof’ as he was warmly known by his friends, family and colleagues, sadly passed away on 16th November 2013 at the age of 78 after a short but difficult battle with a rare cancer called metastatic paraganglioma.

Nobody who knew Brian would be surprised to hear that he faced his illness with great courage and extraordinary stoicism. In the days after his death, his family: Kate, Joanne, Tim, Anthony and Dan agreed that they would like to raise some money in memory of their beloved Brian that might lead in some way to better treatments for patients with cancer.

Instead of sending flowers for his funeral the family requested contributions to a tribute fund. The money raised has formed the inaugural Tribute Fund for the Beatson Cancer Charity.

Brian’s son Anthony Chalmers is a professor of clinical oncology and cancer researcher and has been heavily involved in establishing the Beatson Cancer Charity. His family are delighted to have this opportunity to support the new charity.

We are sincerely grateful to the Chalmers family for setting up the inaugural tribute fund to the Beatson Cancer Charity. Brian’s tribute fund will enable the charity to plan future campaigns to improve outcomes for patients with cancer, and will be a fitting memorial to an exceptional life.
