Kind-hearted pupils and teachers at Glasgow Academy have raised a massive £3166.75 for the Beatson Cancer Charity. The 90+ strong group led by Beatson Cancer Charity Young Ambassador and Glasgow Academy pupil, Hattie Greig, took part in the popular Santa Dash event in December 2013.
This is the second year running that the school have participated in the event to raise funds for the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, raising over £6000 in total and 6th year pupil Hattie hopes that the school will continue the tradition when she sets off for University later this year.
Head of Fundraising, Charlene Elliott (pictured with Hattie and Beatson Cancer Charity Board member Alan Kilpatrick) said, “We are delighted that Hattie has become a Young Ambassador for the charity and to have the support of her teachers and fellow pupils at Glasgow Academy to raise funds for a cause which is close to her heart is just fantastic”.
Peter Brodie, Glasgow Academy's Rector said: "We are immensely proud of Hattie. She is a superb role model and leads with a quiet, understated determination. Glasgow Academy's participation in the Glasgow Santa Dash was her own initiative - and the fact that she persuaded not only her fellow pupils but also her teachers to take part tells its own story. Her response to family tragedy has been nothing short of inspirational. The Santa Dash has now become firmly established in the Glasgow Academy calendar.
"We are pleased to announce that Hattie's fellow pupils, Heather Kilpatrick (fifth year) and Duncan Kilpatrick (primary seven) are also Young Ambassadors for the charity.
