Great British Bake Off finalist James Morton provided a fantastic special prize for Beatson Cancer Charity’s Big Beatson Bake Off star bakers – an exclusive masterclass at west end photography studio, Studio 93.
Beatson Cancer Charity called on all its loyal supporters to organise a bake sale for its annual event, Big Beatson Bake Off, which raised thousands for the cancer charity. The bakers who raised the most dough were treated to an afternoon with James Morton where they learned to make the perfect dough, fantastic focaccia and brilliant banana bread.
James provided the lucky winners Maureen Thomson, Margaret Ashbridge, Moona Murray, Julie Graham, Marie Newcombe, Amy Dreszler and Von with handy hints and tips, encouragement and a helpful Q&A session which was beneficial to all the budding bakers.
Thanks to Martin McCready who provided the stunning location, Studio 93, the competition winners were able to shape dough, add various toppings and bake delicious focaccia using rosemary, peppers, tomatoes, potatoes and leeks. James also provided ingredients aplenty to add to the delicious banana bread which the winners were able to take home.
Amy Dreszler, fundraiser at Beatson Cancer Charity, said: “I’d like to give my sincere thanks to James, Von and Martin for providing an incredible dream prize for all baking enthusiasts. The day was fantastic and all the competition winners left with great baking tips and recipes to try at home. We’re so grateful to the competition winners for their commitment and dedication to raising lots of money for Beatson Cancer Charity.
“I’d also like to thank the hundreds of supporters who organised bake sales across Scotland for their contributions towards the £30, 039.40 raised throughout the Big Beatson Bake Off. We’re looking forward to dusting down our aprons again this year when the event returns.”
James Morton said: “It was an absolute pleasure to meet the winners and I had a great time baking with them. I’m really inspired by the amount of money raised from the Big Beatson Bake Off and hope everyone who took part continues to bake for The Beatson!”
