Francesca Mancini was an exceptional young lady. She made a hugely positive impact as a Beatson Cancer Charity ambassador, fundraiser and friend. She remained positive, courageous and determined throughout her cancer journey but sadly lost her battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma on Saturday 3rd September 2016. Her determination to help raise the profile of Beatson Cancer Charity has made a real and lasting difference to thousands of people across Scotland and further a field.
Francesca bravely shared her story in many charity films and appeals and spoke publicly on behalf of the charity to bring to the attention of everyone, especially young people, the need to keep fighting and not let cancer win. As an ambassador for the charity she put a huge amount of time and effort into raising much-needed funds by organising several successful events all whilst going through treatment.
At the charity’s annual sponsored walk in August - Off The Beatson Track – she signed up an incredible 132 friends and family to join her. It was an inspiring sight to see her dedicated team dressed in yellow supporting their much-loved Francesca who walked the entire 6.5 miles just less than a week before she sadly passed away.
Francesca and her family have received incredible support from her mum’s employer, Stewart Milne Homes, who have also very generously supported Beatson Cancer Charity. From holding family fun day events throughout the year, a high profile road bike challenge where staff members covered the length of the country and clocked up about 700 miles and organising a series of annual formal Dinners, the company has been hugely supportive of Francesca, her family and The Beatson and we are exceptionally grateful to them for everything they have done and continue to do.
Throughout Francesca’s cancer journey she met and developed strong bonds with many other patients, families and supporters. Francesca’s positive, heartfelt and loving personality touched everyone she met - there isn’t anyone who didn’t know her affectionately as ‘Princess of The Beatson’.
Francesca will be remembered for never giving up, for sharing her experiences to build confidence in others and for generally having fun and never letting cancer win.
As a student of Biomedical Science she took a keen interest in learning about her cancer, her treatment and research - always thinking ahead and of others. During her time at The Beatson she often spoke of a need for more education and awareness in order to support others in the same situation and for future generations - something the charity will work hard to support in her memory. Francesca will continue to inspire many others for years to come.
Francesca leaves a legacy which will never be forgotten. Our sincerest sympathies, thoughts and prayers are with everyone who knew and loved Francesca at this difficult time especially May, Osvaldo, Chiara and PJ.
Francesca’s funeral takes place at Noon on Saturday 10th September 2016 at Lambhill Crematorium, Maryhill. Dress code is smart but casual - no black please.
