"More than 110,000 hot drinks have been served from that trolley over the last five years."

Beatson Cancer Charity launched its latest campaign urging supporters to become regular donors while serving free teas and coffees from Glasgow’s George Square today, Wednesday May 1.

The event was also an opportunity for the charity to celebrate its fifth year helping people with cancer, as well as affected families and friends, across the west of Scotland.

Drinks were accompanied by a limited edition ‘Beatson Tunnock’s Teacake’, specially-made and donated by the firm. The tea trolley represents one small service the charity provides that makes a difference to patients and families.

Anyone who has visited The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre will have seen charity volunteers taking the tea trolley around the wards offering refreshments to people waiting for appointments. More than 110,000 hot drinks have been served from that trolley over the last five years.

Beatson Cancer Charity has successfully expanded its vital services over the last five years thanks to its incredible supporters.

These services, hugely appreciated by patients and families, include complementary therapies at the Beatson’s Wellbeing Centre, Specialist Health & Work Service and the tea trolley. This vital work can only continue with additional support.

That’s why the charity is calling on supporters to commit to becoming regular donors allowing it to extend its long-term help to more people and families affected by cancer.

Alison McGregor, Beatson Cancer Charity’s interim Chief Executive said:

“Beatson Cancer Charity’s message to patients and families is ‘We’re with you’ and we’re able to say that because of the incredible support we receive.

“We’re proud to have come so far in five years and there’s still so much more we can do together. Regular donations provide a reliable income that allows us to plan for future projects and services.

“Our vision is to extend our services to help more patients and families affected by cancer. You keep giving - we keep giving.  Let’s see what we can achieve together in the next five years.”
