I am one of the complementary therapists for Beatson Cancer Charity and we wanted to share with you 5 wellness tips during social distancing to hopefully improve your day-to-day living and lift your mood.

#1 – Stick to a routine

Stick to a routine

There are few important routines for you to consider, this includes going to sleep and waking up at reasonable time.

Make some time for work, be that if you are working from home or even for your own personal development – create schedule for this if you can.

Even simple household tasks can be important to have during your routine, but also make time for self-care.

#2 - Dress for the social life that you want, not the social life that you have.

Dress for the social life you have

It’s great to wear comfortable clothes, but make sure you are not spending everyday in your pajamas!

Each day, get washed, get dressed, brush your teeth, brush your hair, even stick some bright clothes on – it can really help lift your mood!

#3 - Get out at least once a day

Get out once a day

Make sure you managing to go for that walk or run locally, even if you do not have dog to go with. Find the time to get some fresh air and exercise outside to help clear your head.

If you are worried about contact with others, maybe consider going out first thing in morning or after dinner just at dusk.

If you are part of the high-risk group, try opening some windows, stick the fan to get some fresh air in the room. This can be great option if you really do not want to go out – it will help lift your spirits.

#4 Limit social media and covid conversations

Limit social media and covid conversation

It’s important during these times you are not constantly on social media or talking about covid, especially around children.

There is so much out misleading information out there, and we are being bombarded with it right now. Instead find a few trusted sources and check in a couple of time a day for any updates.

Sitting with news on all day will not be doing yourself any good or anyone in your household any good. It will just add be adding and compounding to stress and anxiety

#5 Reach out to others

Reach out

Most of us will have this extra time we never had before – so make the most of it!

So, either get back in touch with people that you have lost touch with over time or just stay in touch. There will be people you are used to seeing a regular basis and your having to change how that is.

Rather than having to come and visit you’ll consider setting up all ways you can stay connected

  • Facetime
  • Skype
  • Imo
  • WhatsApp
  • Phone calls
  • Houseparty
  • Texting
  • Zoom

There’s lots of different ways to connect with others, but by connecting with others you give support as well as receive it. Supporting and helping others can increase your own happiness and reduce your own stress so it is a win win situation.

Lastly, remind yourself that this is temporary situation.
