Marking 10 years since his cousins passing, Adam brought together friends and special guests in the online gaming community to raised funds for Beatson Cancer Charity.

“After losing my cousin, who'd been treated very well at The Beatson, I'd been thinking for a long while about doing something to raise money for them, it was just a case of trying to figure out what exactly, and when.

At the end of last year I decided to do a wrestling game stream, following a similar model used by the streaming group newLEGACYinc in their annual Fighting Back streams, which benefit the Canadian Cancer Society. Doing it in March, to mark 10 years since my cousins passing away just felt right. I assembled a group of friends and special guests, to try and help get more eyes on what I was doing.

In the weeks leading up to the date, a dear friend of mine was told she was once again up against cancer, and would be receiving treatment at The Beatson, which added extra meaning to what we were doing.

Then, in the weeks leading up to the date, a dear friend of mine was told she was once again up against cancer, and would be receiving treatment at The Beatson, which added extra meaning to what we were doing.

The target I set was £1,000, as I felt it was a good number that was also achievable. To my absolute joy, we not only beat that target, we more than doubled it! A lot of credit for that should go to Mat Dickie, the developer of Wrestling Revolution 3D, which was one of the games we played. Mat generously matched the donations made once we hit the target. Overall we made it to £2,430, which still astonishes me.

I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped, whether they donated, told their friends about what we were doing, or just offered their support and encouragement. Thank you to all the guests we had - Johnny & Duel from the aforementioned newLEGACYinc, fellow streamers and good friends Repalec & ViciousPrism, comedian John Robertson, and professional wrestlers Jayla Dark, Emily Hayden, Ayesha Raymond, Amy Allonsy, Andrew Everett, Jody Summers, and Piper Niven - none of it would have been possible without your help.

The love and support from everyone involved means the world to me, and I'm hopeful that one day, we'll get together and try to beat the amount we raised this time!”

We’d like to say a huge thank you to Adam and all involved in raising funds at this unique event. Now more than ever, in this period of lockdown, online community fundraising is vital for Beatson Cancer Charity to continue the work we do, as well as enhance and grow our virtual and online support for people facing cancer.

Find out more about how you can get involved and support us, whether it's with a one-off or regular donation, or hosting an online fundraising event, your support is greatly appreciated.
