"It was great to see families finding more creative ways to join in this year. It was a way to spend quality time with their family and friends and to take time out to think of others who are facing cancer."

As this year’s official Off the Beatson Track was adapted due to the coronavirus crisis, over 1,100 supporters decided to take on the challenge of walking their own “virtual” fundraiser, turning towns yellow at the weekend.

In all, Beatson Cancer Charity had a massive response for its weekend-long virtual version of 2020 Off the Beatson Track, with participants raising so-far over £80,000!

Here is a small selection of the many pictures we received from people walking across Glasgow and beyond. Can you spot yourself? You can find a full selection of the images sent in on our Facebook page.

As well as team efforts, there were over 190 separate Just Giving accounts each taking on a personal mission to either thank the hospital and staff for treatment, walking on behalf of someone’s journey and others who were walking in memory of a loved one.

Participants were challenged to get active, whilst adhering to social distancing measures and raising much-needed funds for Beatson Cancer Charity. Many took to their bikes, running and walking with families and friends. Some went the extra mile and organised treasure hunts, picnics, dress-ups and competitions as features of their day. All good fun for a worthy cause.

The weather was mixed but many were high-spirited and adorned the yellow sunglasses, kindly donated by Arnold Clark. DJ Crofty, Adele and Grado from Go Radio also went their own way and joined in as well as leading Radiotherapy Research Group from West of Scotland Cancer Centre.

Every pound raised will go towards adapted services via the charity and help many more patients and their families facing cancer.

In a video message posted on www.beatsoncancercharity.org, Martin Cawley, CEO told supporters that their support was invaluable and needed more than ever.

Martin, said; “It was great to see families finding more creative ways to join in this year. It was a way to spend quality time with their family and friends and to take time out to think of others who are facing cancer. Our work plays a key role to provide better, more effective support to people during their cancer journey so we rely heavily on public support.”
