The Beatson Cancer Charity has finally been able to take to the streets of Glasgow with their larger-than-life Christmas Baubles in attempt to save services at Scotland’s leading cancer hospital for families facing cancer.
The charity is encouraging people to share positive thoughts of Hope, Celebration, Thanks and Remembrance whilst making a contactless donation. Shoppers across five locations in Glasgow are invited to dedicate and hang a bauble and to help more cancer patients and their families across the West of Scotland and beyond.
The charity is encouraging people to take their photo if they are visiting the city since lockdown has been relaxed and encouraged to donate online. The list of locations includes St Enoch Centre, Glasgow; Braehead Shopping Centre; Silverburn Shopping Centre, Pollok; Glasgow Airport and Princes Square, Glasgow. Any donation (big or small) shall help raise vital funds for patients and families affected by cancer in Scotland this Christmas
The joy of Christmas shopping has returned, just in time, as announcements from today mean that people can return to venues which are in their local authority, to shop safely. It is hoped the giant baubles will act as a reminder and entice people to donate at one of the five bauble locations and tell their friends on their social media channels using the hashtag #BeatsonBauble.
The production of the giant baubles has been a mammoth effort from kind-hearted, local suppliers specialising in design, production, and transportation. The following deserve a special thanks: JR Spray Finishes (Bellahouston), Novograf (East Kilbride) and Simple Signs & Graphics (Pollokshields) and transportation via Menzies Distribution.
“We are absolutely delighted to have been asked to support the Beatson Bauble campaign. Plans were definitely put on hold for a while due to COVID-19 restrictions, but we are so glad that our work is finally on show. We are sure Christmas Shoppers will help donate and spread the word about the amazing work the charity does.” - Stephen Mcilvain, owner of JR Spray Finishes
“We’re so excited to bring our bauble appeal to life, but this year is even more important to us and ultimately the survival of our services. We know footfall will be much lower this year, but we were still keen to share our Giant Baubles, especially with the work involved to produce them, and it gives shoppers another chance to support our Bauble appeal. Thank you to all our supporters and business partners who have helped us in a year most will want to forget.” - Morag Cunningham, Director Fundraising at Beatson Cancer Charity
This Christmas, Beatson Cancer Charity is asking everyone who has been touched in some way by the care and support provided by the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre and related hospitals to get involved and hang a Beatson Bauble, available with a donation from www.beatsoncancercharity.org/bauble or donate by texting word BEATSON to 70490 to donate £5. You can also call 0141 212 0505.
The baubles will be in place until first week of January at:
· St Enoch Centre, Glasgow
· Braehead Shopping Centre
· Silverburn Shopping Centre, Pollock
· Glasgow Airport
· Princes Square, Glasgow
All funds raised from the appeal will help the charity provide specialist staff posts including nursing, radiography, physics and research-based staff as well as funding enhanced medical equipment to support new patients who attend the Beatson and its related facilities next year.
Please share on social media to help raise awareness; donate via the baubles, or visit www.beatsoncancercharity.org to donate online and help families facing cancer this Christmas. Use the hashtag #beatsonbauble.
The transformation and upcycling of the Christmas Baubles has been made into a short film which you can view below:
