We are delighted to announce that Businesses and fundraisers painted Glasgow and The West Yellow on Thursday 29th April, with one city nursery showing their support for our See The Difference Day with a sponsored plant-a-thon during a visit from Bella the Beatson Bee.
Support ranged from logistics firm Green Fulfilment, offices, nurseries and bakeries who have raised money for our MRI appeal by wearing their most extravagant shades of yellow for the day.
Our Turn it Yellow Day was a roaring success with efforts to ramp up even more awareness and support for our newest appeal for a new, state of the art MRI scanner. Glasgow based fundraisers received a visit from Bella the Bee to the delight of Puddle Duck nursery pupils. Bella also appeared alongside Firhill’s own Kingsley as Partick Thistle FC showed their support for the appeal.
Nichola Reith, one of the eponymous sisters of Three Sisters Bake and supporter of the appeal, said: “The Beatson has a special place in our hearts because we have family and friends who have been treated there. We jumped at the chance to support their appeal.”
Turn it Yellow day championed efforts involving yellow as it is the colour of joy, hope, optimism, and happiness, something we intend to inspire in both fundraisers and patients of the Beatson alike. The day comes as part of our new campaign, See the Difference, working closely with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to raise £100,000 to fund a new MRI scanner as well as covering the recruitment, training and salary costs of specialist staff posts.
Irene Wilson, manager of Puddleduck Nursery, said: “It has been such a fun day! The kids have been thoroughly enjoying themselves and we’re all delighted to raise money for such a great cause.”
Martin Cawley, CEO of the Beatson Cancer Charity, said: “We have been absolutely blown away by the level of engagement with our Turn It Yellow Day.
“Our appeal for an MRI scanner to improve the treatment of patients across Glasgow and the west has heart-warmingly been answered by hundreds of kind and brightly dressed fundraisers.
“Everyone who turned it yellow has directly helped to improve the lives of people in their community living with cancer.”
Green Fulfilment, based in the southside of Glasgow, held a raffle and bake sale as part of Turn It Yellow Day, going all out to support the charity. The unity and kindness show by businesses and individuals across Glasgow and the West have been a wonderful sign of a normality to come. Glaswegians have rallied around us in a big way and will see the results in their community for decades to come.
