From the 1st-7th June it was Volunteers week and we wanted to celebrate and show our gratitude to our superstars! Volunteers are core to our efforts and allow us to provide that all important Care Love and Hope.
We had some fantastic messages, notably from Beatson Cancer Charity President and Lord Provost of Glasgow, Philip Braat who said, “We have seen many changes in our own lives over the last year, but one thing that has not changed, and will never change, is the incredible commitment and passion shown by you – the Beatson Cancer Charity volunteers.” Thank you to the Lord Provost for taking the time to send such a wonderful message to our volunteers.
Our very own CEO Martin Cawley also said “The people that volunteer for this charity never fail to amaze me, never fail to amaze any one of us. Whilst the last year has been a really difficult one, it has probably been a really rewarding one at the same time. The way our staff and volunteers have helped out can never be underestimated and for that we are truly grateful.”

Our first Q&A was hosted by CEO Martin Cawley with volunteer Board Member Alison McGregor. You can hear from Alison as she talks about her role within Beatson Cancer Charity, as well as her experience over the last year in lockdown. The second was hosted by Volunteer Coordinator Paul Sheerin who spoke with volunteer Adrien Dorleans. Student Adrien talks about his role within Beatson Cancer Charity, specifically about his role supporting the charity and The Beatson throughout Covid-19.
The final Q&A was hosted by Volunteer Manager Marlyn Hosie with volunteer Liz. Liz talks about her (pre-pandemic) role working within the Day Unit within The Beatson, as well as her new roles supporting the Beatson Cancer Charity throughout Covid-19. A thank you all those who took the time to join us for a Q&A this Volunteers’ Week.
We are also delighted that, alongside NHS staff, our wonderful volunteers have been recognised as delivering exceptional service throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Whether this was by keeping safe by staying home, or by taking on various volunteering roles throughout the pandemic – We're so proud!
