We have an opportunity for you to support a ‘first of its kind' research project that will allow you to be a part of something that could have life-changing outcomes and pave the way in how we continue our research.
Did you know that in the West of Scotland around 300 people each year are treated with Radiotherapy for Head and Neck Cancer?
Treatment is generally given every day for 6 weeks but currently, like with most cancers, there is no good way to tell during that time how well radiotherapy is working. We know that around half of Head and Neck Cancers will not be cured despite this intensive treatment.
Dr Claire Paterson, Consultant Oncologist and Researcher at The Beatson, and a team of specialists have designed a new study using the new MRI scanner. The BARITONE study will assess people with Head and Neck Cancer more closely than ever before during Radiotherapy treatment. This will allow the team to modify the treatment there and then if the tumour is not responding, allowing for a more hopeful – and potentially life changing - outcome.
The information we learn from the BARITONE study will not only help people with head and neck cancer but will also allow us to develop similar studies in other cancer types, meaning this is an important study for everyone affected by cancer in the West of Scotland.
We are driven to ensure we can make this possible for people facing cancer and we will continue to strive to enhance our research and treatment options, but we need your help to enable us to make these breakthroughs.
Research studies like this are only possible with your support.
Every donation, no matter how big or small will make a huge difference. Thank you for your support in helping us make life-changing differences to people facing cancer.
