An Ayrshire couple are encouraging others to include Beatson Cancer Charity’s wedding range on their big day to give back to cancer patients.

Amy and Fraser Richmond, who tied the knot in November, chose to incorporate a handfasting ribbon and edible favours into their special day following their close connection with our charity.

We have a range of wedding items, including our very own Tartan, to enable newlyweds to support cancer patients while celebrating their marriage.

Amy and Fraser got married on 10th November in Western House Hotel in Ayr. Amy explained they knew they wanted to purchase from our charity’s wedding range before they were engaged.

She said: “Some very close family members had received successful treatment at The Beatson, including Fraser in the last few years.

“Fraser and I stumbled across the wedding range when buying our annual Christmas cards.

“I had it bookmarked until he popped the question and we could get planning our wedding. As the charity is so close to us, we just knew we had to make sure it was part of our day.”

Beatson Cancer Charity’s Tartan was specially commissioned with perfect tones for a Scottish wedding. The tartan can be used in a variety of ways from kilts, chair ties, around bouquets or within your ceremony as a handfasting ribbon.

The tartan was inspired by Jane Hunter, former Glasgow School of Art student and now owner of Hunter's Atelier. It was masterly woven at Isla Bank Mills in Keith, part of the Macnaughton Group, with over 200 years experience as a niche manufacturer in the textile industry.

“All the guests loved the idea of us giving back to the charity as it has helped many people in our and their lives.”

Amy explained the reasons behind the items they chose to have on their wedding day.

She said: “We chose the Thistle Chocolates for our table favours and the Handfasting Tartan for our ceremony.

“The tartan was very bold, and we loved that it could be part of our ceremony.

“The chocolates were an obvious choice for us as we love chocolate, plus they had a nice Scottish theme by having the thistle.

“The guests loved the chocolates - they didn't even last til the end of the meal!”

Amy says it was important for them to incorporate Beatson Cancer Charity into their wedding day to raise awareness.

She continued: “It was important for us to give back to Beatson Cancer Charity as if it wasn't for The Beatson and the amazing treatment they provide, our wedding day may not have been possible.

“We were glad to raise awareness of the charity by buying from the wedding range.

“All the guests loved the idea of us giving back to the charity as it has helped many people in our and their lives.”

Kathleen McLaren, head of trading at Beatson Cancer Charity, said: “Working alongside Slanj and Jane Hunter of Hunters Atelier to come up with such a beautiful tartan while incorporating our brand colours was so special.

“Please consider supporting Beatson Cancer Charity by incorporating it into your wedding day. Whether it be kilt or a keepsake heart, a favour or friendship orb - it all goes toward supporting cancer patients and their families across the west of Scotland.”
