On Saturday, 2nd November 2024, the atmosphere at Glasgow Prestwick Airport was buzzing with energy and excitement as hundreds of runners took on the unique and challenging Run the Runway event. It was a day to remember, with a phenomenal £150,000 for three incredibly deserving charities: Ayrshire Hospice, Beatson Cancer Charity, and Doing It for Daniel.
As a charity that supports those affected by cancer, we at Beatson Cancer Charity are incredibly grateful to be one of the recipients of this event’s generous fundraising efforts. The £50,000 we received will help us continue our work of enhancing the lives of people impacted by cancer through vital support services, ground-breaking research, and much-needed care.
A Day to Remember
From start to finish, the energy at the airport was electric. Over 1,000 participants took on 10k and 5k challenges across the airport’s two runways, all united by a shared purpose: to make a real difference for those affected by cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. Their determination, along with the support of volunteers, local businesses, and sponsors like LAML Airfield Contractors, truly made the day unforgettable.
The community spirit was palpable, with everyone coming together in the name of charity and making a significant impact. The incredible support of the runners, walkers, and everyone involved helped raise this outstanding amount. We were thrilled to be part of the official cheque presentation, where each of the three charities received £50,000. It was a heart-warming moment, and it reinforced how much can be achieved when communities unite.
Making a Difference
The funds raised by the Run the Runway 2024 event will directly benefit three organisations that are committed to improving the lives of those affected by cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.
• Beatson Cancer Charity will continue to provide vital support and care for those undergoing treatment for cancer, as well as funding research to improve outcomes for patients.
• Ayrshire Hospice will use its share to deliver exceptional care to individuals with life-limiting illnesses, providing comfort and dignity when it’s most needed.
• Doing It for Daniel Foundation will support young cancer patients by funding special gifts, experiences, and holidays, as well as contributing to research into childhood brain cancer.
